Your Questions Answered

Everything you need to know about moving with Elite Movers. Our comprehensive FAQ covers all aspects of your moving experience.

📅 Booking & Scheduling

How far in advance should I book my move?

+

We recommend booking at least 2-4 weeks in advance, especially during peak season (May-September). For long-distance moves or during busy periods, booking 4-6 weeks ahead is ideal. However, we often accommodate last-minute moves based on availability.

What is your peak moving season?

+

Peak season runs from May through September, with the busiest times being summer months and the end/beginning of months. Weekends are typically busier than weekdays. Consider scheduling your move during off-peak times for better availability and potentially lower rates.

Can I change or cancel my moving date?

+

Yes, we understand plans can change. We require at least 48 hours notice for changes or cancellations to avoid fees. Changes are subject to availability. Our customer service team will work with you to find alternative dates that work for your schedule.

Do you provide moving estimates over the phone?

+

We provide preliminary estimates over the phone, but for the most accurate quote, we recommend an in-home estimate for local moves or a detailed virtual assessment for long-distance moves. This ensures we account for all factors that could affect your moving cost.

💰 Pricing & Payment

How is the cost of my move calculated?

+

Local moves are charged hourly based on crew size and truck. Long-distance moves are calculated based on weight, distance, and additional services. All estimates include fuel, equipment, basic insurance, and taxes - no hidden fees.

What payment methods do you accept?

+

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover). Payment is due upon completion of your move. For long-distance moves, we may require a deposit to reserve your moving date.

Are there any additional fees I should know about?

+

Our standard rates include fuel, equipment, furniture pads, basic insurance, and taxes. Additional fees may apply for: stairs beyond the 2nd floor, long carries (over 100 feet), specialty items, storage, or services outside normal business hours. All potential fees are discussed upfront.

Do you offer any discounts?

+

Yes! We offer discounts for military personnel, seniors (65+), and repeat customers. We also have off-peak pricing for moves during slower periods. Ask about current promotions when you book your move.

📦 Packing & Preparation

Can I pack my own belongings?

+

Absolutely! Many customers prefer to pack their personal items. We recommend letting our professionals handle fragile items, electronics, and valuable artwork. We can provide packing supplies and tips to ensure your items are properly protected.

Do you provide packing materials?

+

Yes, we offer a complete line of packing materials including boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, and specialty boxes for dishes, wardrobes, and artwork. Materials can be purchased separately or included in full-service packing.

What should I not pack or move?

+

We cannot move hazardous materials (paint, propane, chemicals), perishable food, plants, pets, personal valuables (jewelry, important documents, cash), or anything illegal. We'll provide a complete list of prohibited items when you book.

How should I prepare for the movers' arrival?

+

Pack personal items, disassemble furniture if needed, clear pathways, protect floors if necessary, arrange childcare and pet care, keep important documents with you, and have payment ready. We'll provide a detailed checklist before your move.

🛡️ Insurance & Protection

Is my move insured?

+

Yes, basic liability coverage is included at no extra cost, providing $0.60 per pound per article protection. We also offer full-value protection and additional insurance options for complete peace of mind. We recommend discussing coverage options during your estimate.

What if something gets damaged during the move?

+

We take great care to prevent damage, but if something does occur, report it immediately to your crew leader and note it on the inventory sheet. File a claim within 9 months for local moves or 9 months for long-distance moves. We'll work quickly to resolve any issues.

Should I purchase additional insurance?

+

For valuable items, antiques, or electronics, additional insurance is recommended. You can purchase full-value protection through us or check if your homeowner's/renter's insurance covers items in transit. We're happy to help you determine the best coverage for your needs.

🚛 Moving Day

What time will the movers arrive?

+

We'll provide a 2-hour arrival window and call you 30 minutes before arrival. Our crews typically start between 8 AM and 10 AM, but we can accommodate special timing requests when possible.

How long will my move take?

+

Move duration depends on the size of your home, amount of items, distance between locations, and services requested. A typical 2-bedroom apartment takes 4-6 hours, while a 4-bedroom house may take 8-12 hours. We'll provide an estimated timeframe during your consultation.

Do I need to be present during the entire move?

+

You or an authorized representative should be present at both pickup and delivery to sign inventories, provide special instructions, and handle payment. If you can't be present, arrange for someone who can make decisions on your behalf.

What happens if weather conditions are bad?

+

We monitor weather conditions closely and will contact you if severe weather might affect your move. Safety is our priority - we may need to reschedule for dangerous conditions. Light rain or snow typically doesn't prevent moving, and we take extra precautions to protect your belongings.

⚙️ Services & Policies

Do you offer storage services?

+

Yes, we provide both short-term and long-term storage solutions in secure, climate-controlled facilities. This is perfect for timing gaps between moves, downsizing, or temporary storage needs. Storage fees are separate from moving costs.

Can you move my piano or other specialty items?

+

Yes, we have specialized equipment and trained professionals for pianos, safes, artwork, antiques, and other valuable items. These items require special handling and may incur additional charges. Please mention them when booking so we can prepare accordingly.

Do you move apartments and offices?

+

Absolutely! We handle residential moves of all sizes (apartments, houses, condos) and commercial moves (offices, retail spaces, warehouses). Our commercial division specializes in minimizing business downtime and can work during off-hours or weekends.

Are you licensed and insured?

+

Yes, Elite Movers is fully licensed for intrastate and interstate moves, bonded, and insured. We maintain all required certifications and are members of professional moving associations. You can verify our credentials through the Department of Transportation.
